In the world of work, there is plenty of room for so many different workplace setups. If you want to work in a team, you can do that, if you want to work from home, you can go freelance, but if you wanted to work by yourself so you are independent from an office environment, yet you didn’t want to work at home, what options do you have?

Starting a career as a driver offers you that balance, but what type of work is available and what do you need to start on the road to becoming a driver?

Here are some of the most popular types of driving jobs currently available on the market and what special requirements you need.

1. Delivery Driver

A very popular career choice as the nature of the work is flexible depending on who you work for, being a delivery driver can vary from delivering meals to being a courier for parcels and small packages.

The requirements for this type of job are very limited, as long as you have your own car and a clean driving license, you can get hired for any type of delivery job, but be prepared to work unsociable hours and, if you are delivering food, be sure to have some change in your pocket at all times, as people expect change from their takeaway meals!

2. Ride Sharing Driver

The rise of the ride-sharing app like Uber means that they are constantly on the lookout for high-quality drivers. The hiring process in comparison to a package delivery driver is a lot less stringent. You do not need to have a CDL, just a standard driving license. You also need to pass a background check and be over 21 to drive, you can get more information on how to become an uber driver on their website.

As the nature of the app world means that demand for all sorts of services is increasing on a rapid scale, including ride sharing, this means that demand is currently high for drivers and without any special qualifications or requirements needed.

3. Package Delivery

Different from a standard delivery driver and different from being a truck driver. By doing this you are driving a larger vehicle, and it is for reputable companies like FedEx or UPS, and as a result you will require a commercial driving license, either class “A” or class “B” CDLs (Commercial Drivers License) which can take 6 to 12 months to acquire, you may also need to pass a physical or possibly a drug test and be able to lift heavier items, around 25 to 35 pounds or more.

The benefits of jobs such as these includes great pay, but due to the physical nature of the job, it does mean that it can be a difficult job to get, and due to the high salary, it means that competition for these types of jobs are quite fierce. So by being physically fit and obtaining a CDL before applying will serve you well.
