It doesn’t have to just be grey hair arriving, kids heading off to study in a city far away, some pounds that sneak on in your forties, or a midlife crisis.
Did you know that the forties can be the perfect opportunity for you to make a career transformation? It is the perfect time to claim your dream career so you can start living the life you deserve and desire!
It really is! Let me tell you how:
Maybe you are in the place I once was. You are stressed out; feeling that somehow life seems to get in the middle of everything.
You know you want something more, something else. But you don’t know what to do or if you’re going to make it – and you end up being more frustrated! All you know is that you desperately want a change, but you feel that the years slip by all the same.
I had all those thoughts, all those fears when it came to changing my career after turning 40
The important thing is not to rush in. Because then you will be struggling with fear, and will ultimately end up where you were before you even started, only more stressed out. Worst of all, you will probably be even more confused.
I want to share three steps to help you claim that dream career. Remember that you still have many good years to come before you are going to sit there with your gray hair, talking about your grandchildren and how things were so much better back in those days.
Going Back to Basics — Only Better
The first step is all about going back to basic. Why is it that you want to change your career? Take your time and figure it out. What is it you love to do? What is it that you could do even if you didn’t get a dime doing it?
Then write down what could happen if you continue on the path that you are on. Will things stay the same? Or do you think you will become more confused, more tired, or wander farther from the life you want to live?
The best part with going back to basics is that you are going to dig deep down into how your life could be just one year from now if you have claimed your dream career.
Imagine waking up every morning knowing that you have a job you love, a position that gives you meaning and fulfillment. I can see you now, sitting there smiling as you write down how your life could turn out… Am I right?
Plan and Adjust
Something so simple – but yet so frustrating.
You have to plan your transformation in a specific order and have focused on the right things. Otherwise, you end up with everything but results. By preparing and adjusting you will learn valuable lessons, like how to find the right resources, and how to take actions that are needed to step out.
What do you have to do to claim your dream career? Do you have to go back to school? Do you have to learn some special skills? Or is it personal mind blocks you have to tackle first?
Imagine you want to visit a beautiful island in a sailboat. You have to plan for the trip. Is it something you have to learn before you go? What is a must to bring along? What dangers can you meet? You see, if you don’t do any planning, you get anything but safe travel.
Then let’s say you have planned the trip well. As the wind and the waves influence your journey, you have to adjust your sails.
When you do your planning and adjusting, it will fast-track your way to the life and income you deserve and desire.
We love fast-tracking, either in business or other areas of our life, right?!
When it comes to transforming your career, you have to plan and adjust, just like you would have done if you were about to go out on a sailboat to an island you had never visited before.
Have a Coach in Your Corner
I am the first to admit that getting a coach was not in my mind when I wanted to claim my dream career after turning 40. You would think that it was too expensive or that it would take to long for you to get where you wanted to be. All the best athletes and CEO’s had their coach, but me? I was a woman who just wanted to change my career…
If you don’t get the help you need, you will keep wondering alone. Where to start? What to do? How to do it? Am I on the right path?…
It’s just like a hamster wheel. It’s not a good feeling. I know, because I’ve been there. I needed someone to hold my hand. But I didn’t reach out…
Find that one person who has been in your shoes, the one with whom you have the right chemistry. Think of it like someone sitting in the front seat with you, guiding you from A to Z.
Find that person who can gain you clarity, and help you take the right steps at the right time, so you can go out there and claim your dream career!
Just a Little Reminder if You Still Don’t Think You can Claim Your Dream Career After Turning 40
Did you know that Julia Child released her first cookbook at age 39? And that she got her cooking show after turning 50? And, it may surprise you to learn that Samuel L. Jackson didn’t get his first movie role until he was 46!
I don’t know if your dream career is being an actor, making a cooking show or being an entrepreneur like I became after turning 40. All I know is that it’s not too late! You can’t change the past, but you can always change the future.
You Have a Choice!
The best part is that you have a choice! You can continue on the same path that you are on right now. Or you can go out there and start claiming that dream career! Why? So you can live the life you deserve and desire, that’s why!
