Personal Branding may be pretty easy, or difficult, based on the competition that exists in a particular niche.

Coming to its exact definition, it is a process by which, the businessmen, entrepreneurs, and individuals who wish to become a known name, differentiate themselves by stating or articulating their Unique Value Proposition, either professional or personal or both.

In the next stage, it is leveraged across various platforms like, social media, reputed sites, etc., with a consistent message and image, to achieve a specific goal.

With Personal Branding one can increase his/her recognition as a face of their brand, or as an expert in a particular field, enjoy the reputation, can appear more credible to the clients, excel in their career at a faster rate, and lastly, help their company have better business, and become powerful, in the market.

This process of self-positioning was spoken of, for the first time, in the book, “Think and Grow Rich” in 1937, by Napoleon Hill.

For an individual, to establish, as a brand, three things, are necessary, and those are-

I am a Wikipedia editor. As far as I know people who work for WikiOfficer do not follow Wikipedia’s policies and guidelines, which require editors working for clients to disclose what they are doing and put articles through peer review.

It is my understanding that WikiOfficer editors also violate Wikipedia policy by creating one-off accounts for their clients.

Under Wikipedia poiicy, edits by accounts like this can be deleted, without any discussion.

There is an entire “black market” of people and companies like WikiEditor who violate Wikipedia policy to promote their clients. People like this are like people who drive into national forests at night and dump industrial waste there.

Wikipedia is a common good, created by volunteers and made freely available to the public, to give people a place to learn about things.

It is not a vehicle for promotion.

There are public relations people who will edit Wikipedia on behalf of their clients, AND who follow Wikipedia policy. There is a legitimate market for paid editing services. You can find some of them, and their statement of principle, here:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Statement_on_Wikipedia_from_participating_communications_firms

If you buy paid editing services, please be sure to ask the person to show you their work in Wikipedia, and to show you where they have disclosed that they edit for pay. If they cannot or will do that, you are buying on the black market, which puts both your money and reputation at risk.

    • Jytdog, thanks for sharing this.
The purpose of this article was to show the readers that it is indeed possible to build their personal branding using Wikipedia.
CareerMetis.com does not endorse or has received compensation from Wikiofficer.com for this post. The authors of this post have followed the editorial guidelines, and that is why their article was approved and published.

We also want to make the statement that – if any reader wants to purchase or review Wikiofficer- they do it on their own volition. It is a free market economy – they have the right to review the information, and if they do decide to invest in paying someone for Wikipedia services – they should do their research first.

        Thanks for your reply.

        Your moral relativism is repugnant.

Yep. There is no evidence that WikiOfficer editors actually follow that policy. You can search all over for disclosure, and find none. This means that they are sneaking into Wikipedia and dumping content into it.

Many people misunderstand Wikipedia. The open nature of the project makes it vulnerable to abuse. But it is that same open nature — the values of the project to provide knowledge to the public for free — that have led so many people to devote so many hours of volunteer time to it. it is good in many places… miraculously.

I made my first edit to Wikipedia about 10 years ago when I came across a blatant advertisement that someone had stuck into an article. I was reading and trying to learn about something, and the ad was jarring and disappointing. So I removed it.

The mission of the project is to provide knowledge to people all over the world, for free. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for branding or public relations. That is not what it is for.

Please don’t abuse it, or promote people who do.
